I’m relieved to say that construction is mostly complete now in the new studio space. Fnished a bit of trim work this morning and then a my friend Dave came by to help me move my intaglio press from the studio pressroom to the garage space. The linotype is dusted off, the magazine rack is in place and refilled with magazines (these are the steel and brass “cartridges” that contain the matrices for casting type) and the lead pigs are moved back in. Here’s a pic of the progress.

Tomorrow we print the last page of text fro the Voelker book. Then just the colophon and wood engravings to be done. Binding materials are beginning to arrive.

We have a title page

Friday was a long day of printing. The dampened sheets were ready to go and I had pretty much set up the title page after about ten prototypes which slowly evolved to this. Printed in 2 colors and backed up on the reverse side with the half title in the same shade of green ink. While the ink was on the press I also printed the page captions for the colophon and foreword.

Voelker title page

Kind of a modernist take on the title page. The type is a combination of hand set ATF Garamond and Linotype Janson.
